Boxes

Rigid societal labeling,

People callously categorized

“good” vs “bad”

Boxed, duct-tape sealed, accordingly

Arrested, jailed,

Thrown into the box

Sharpie scrawled labeled “bad”

Reeling, disoriented

Minus rappel equipment

Hands and feet shame greased

She scrambles, attempts to climb

Out of the box

Attempts to weather the storm

Swirling winds of negativity

Blur her vision

Fog her awareness

Reinforce the boxes

Raise their walls

Individually, movements of pain,

Vulnerability, struggle bleed through

Dismantle the rigid boxes.

Collectively humanity is hidden

Swept under street-smart veneer.
