Balancing Act

Feeding her starving soul

Upon gratitude over angst

She ponders precarious balance

Need to honor her experience

Acknowledge the depth of her pain

Sans wallowing or drowning

Pour energy into future

Grounded in positive focus

Without invalidating loss and hurt

Loved ones tend to tip

Scales dizzying-ly unbalanced

One side or another

Dismal soothsayers

Perpetual doom foretell

Future irrevocably marred

Cheerleaders exhort belief

In productive forward motion

Future well worth living

Teetering and tottering

She staggers, leans and sways

Struggles step by step

To hold her story whole

With gentle loosed reins

Speak the pain-seared life

Allow it to define her not
