Despair

Beneath day’s placid surface

Deceptive calm still waters

Lurks hideous hidden monster

Dormant and silent.

Predatory, alert

Bestirred by surprise provocation

Grasping, terrifying

In split-second surge

It attacks

Breaks surface

Swamps peace

Capsizes hope

Tentacles stretch all directions

Suction, adhere to her skin

Suffocating, pull her under

To ink-poisoned murky deep
