Dandelion Lesson

Golden heads speckle and dot

Anachronistically green surround

Huddled ground-close, befuddled

Too short to bob in breeze play

Coaxed precipitously from hibernation

By sun and rain’s spring fling

They sprung joyously from earth’s confines

Muddying December landscape.

Bright and boldly yellow

They echo mid-afternoon sun

Hanging lazy at low-flying angle

On retreat to early night’s rest

Hardy and determined they grasp

Every moment to shine and bloom

Spread golden-tufted missive

Of survival and perseverance.
