Still Waiting

“Inside,” she waited

for court to come and the days to go

for torment to end and peace to flow

for anguish to end and hope to show

beyond hours of endless sorrow

Outside, she’s waited

for windows to open after the snow

for throated lump to dissolve and swallow

for forgiveness to heal her heart so hollow

in a future beleaguered in efforts to grow
