Bastardizing Feminism

when you call me

with that sneer

that mocks blue-black

from deadened eyes

have you consulted Webster

as you disparage

is it equality

that prompts

your jaw tightening

snarling disdain?

what fear you

if I stood

at your side?

when you label me

in that tone

befit for excrement

you trod upon

now befouling your nose

did you crack open Oxford

before you hurl

erroneous aspersions?

is it not right

in your eyes

smeared with sycophantic

that I dare believe

I am deserving

of status

when you brand me

as you would

a wandering cow

to which you lay claim,

who irritates

with wayward ways,

do you peruse American Heritage

as you slander

from spittle-foamed lips?

is it my audacity

to advocate

earnest and articulate

on behalf of myself

and sisters in subjugation

that tightens your colon

as you clench

your misbegotten gains?

dear sirs (and madams)

I respectfully submit the attached

as evidence of

verbiage abuse

and request that you

cease and desist

This is Jail

“this is jail”

oft-repeated poisonous mantra

“if you don’t like it, don’t come to jail”

officer excusing institutional dehumanization

“we’re in jail”

flawed logic condoning

crude, rude sewer mouth

gratuitous graphic expletives

“i’m in jail”

faulty rationale promoting

senseless corrosive pejoratives

perpetually derogatory interactions

“you’re in jail”

invalidation levied rataliatorily

accusation of assured corruption

expectations of decency DENIED

“this is jail”

flashing neon sign

advertising internalized self-denigration

all-pervading loss of dignity

Guest Barista Aurora Phoenix-Spring Sun

The warm and welcoming folks at the Go Dog Go Cafe have been so kind to post this piece of mine. Please visit them in the Cafe

Go Dog Go Café

Gently strengthening spring sun

Asserts itself, boldening balm

Daffodil yellow rays coax relaxation

Weave protective filaments of warmth

Drape dappled fronds of healing

Upon winter’s starved countenance.

Windbursts swirl, frollic

Lion cubs tussling playfully

Rustle autumns’ leafy detritus

Echoing swan song, year departed

Scouring, shining

Dressing the world anew.

Deontological Doubts – Aurora Phoenix

My latest piece on Sudden Denouement. As always, I am honored to be among such quality writers. Be sure to check out all of their work!

Sudden Denouement Collective

Deontological Doubts

I run barefoot
past the bronzed statues
idols of deontological divination.
I am a rule-following rebel
tracking muddied toes
between the pews
in which I have long since
refused to kneel.
I gave up self-flagellation
for Lent
the year I was sixteen
though those reflexes
to don needless
sackcloth and ashes
twitch, regenerative,
and the hair shirt
my free spirited
flights of fancy.
I labor
toward fictional salvation
yoked under twined heritage:
an inexhaustible work ethic
my non- Protestant roots
while I lug the chiseled tablets
writ with my Catholic guilt.

I have walked the straight and narrow
heel just beyond toe
slow and steady
hands held just so
contriving delicate
quivering –
the fallen branch is wobbly
surging water below
frigid, if not deep.
that limb I went out on
felt a mission
no lark nor miscreation.
there was vine-shrouded rot
a shattering…

Pas De Deux

I hear the woodpecker peck

I scan the trees and see him not

risking a trip

at my chased by hellhounds’ pace

                          (why do I assume

                          the woodpecker is a he?

is it the phallusy of his name?

                           or expectation that glorious plumage

                            adorns solely avian males?)

at each echoing percussion

I picture the rubies

threaded upon his crown,

of homage due.

               (I would bow in wonder

               curtsy indeed

               if only I could capture

  •      photographic –

              carmine crest)

I chase

amongst the thickets

insufficiently stealthy

of crimson glimpses,

shrills a raucous descant

betwixt rat-tat-tat drumming

(fluttering coquetry

dashes limb to limb

lifting checkerboard skirts

in reticent resplendence)

I give up the chase

pixels un-imagined

senses scarlet with

unrequited adulation

Guest Barista Aurora Phoenix-Breeze Feather

I am honored to have a guest piece on the Go Dog Go Cafe. Please stop by and sip some warmth on this frigid day with the good folks at the cafe

Go Dog Go Café

Feathered hint of a breeze

Tickles, nearly imperceptible

Traces in teasing giggles

Along skin’s razored edges

Soothes with wafted promises

Strewn amidst heat-sharpened day

Tale as Old as Time

eschew the literati

chewing, as they do

the fat

that was siphoned off

(not their lips

stiff or upper)

and plumps

out the lines

that were drawn

pensive or cogitative

in the lottery.

you know the one –

your soul spins

via stork or in vitro

into privilege

silver spoon mouthing

or abjectly

into poverty.

you are imbued

of a body

conceivably ill-fitting,

incognizant of

your track-side

right side,

you are fed

constant limpid

liquid protein

self-congratulatory myths

populated with bootstraps

veni, vidi, vici.

wrong side,

you race

to stay one step ahead

of that crushing 8 ball.

you are the star pupil

in the school of hard knocks

and the research fellow

a font of lifelong

steeped in data on the

ubiquity of inequity
